After Elon Musk, it seems it is yet another case where a victim involved into a scam. This time- the famous department store retailer called Target.
According to reports, scammers hacked Target’s twitter account and posted a Tweet with the misleading link. The Target states it in its official report:
“Early this morning, Target’s Twitter account was inappropriately accessed. The access lasted for approximately half an hour and one fake tweet was posted during that time about a bitcoin scam.”
It seems like scammers originated some new way to trick their victims. They have started hacking accounts and mislead the victim into falling for Bitcoin . As that posted tweet by scammers was promising 5000 BTC prize just by participating in the giveaway.
This company has more than 2 million followers on Twitter. There is a possibility that the scam could have tricked several Targets’ users. Also, it is not known whether the link is used for tracking personal details or infect victims with some dangerous virus.
Scammers post a tweet
However the account was hacked for several hours. In that short period even, hackers managed to post a misleading tweet. The main issue is that, their post contains a link, and was approved by Twitter as it is an advertisement. We are still waiting for Twitter representatives comment on this issue.
What happened on the case of Elon Musk
You hear a lot about Elon Musk’s Twitter incident, recently, his twitter account was hacked and various highly sensitive activities had been recorded. He involved in the scam asking for Bitcoin payment and promising to send a bigger amount in return. And, his account was hacked by scammers, and people send them almost 40000 dollars.
New way of scammers to trick their victim
The case of Target and Elon Musk are some of the various scams that subsequently happen on day to day life. On deep analyzing on both the cases, it seems like both are victimized with of same issues where twitter account has been hacked and use it for generating bitcoin.
The hackers often use this new trend for encrypting user’s data and demanding money from them in order to retrieve the files. Also, they use this one for the invasion of Cryptomining malware, a virus that can infect the system without your knowledge and run various processes in the background. This help its authors to make quick money without direct contact to the victim.
