Easy [[email protected]].Z9 ransomware removal guide
Z9 or otherwise called [[email protected]].Z9 ransomware is a file-locking virus belongs to Dharma ransomware family. Cyber security researcher, Raby discovered this variant. As a rule, ransomware type programs encrypt stored files, change filenames and create ransom note which contains ransom demanding message for the data decryption. As Z9 encrypts, the filenames of the encrypted files will receive .Z9 extension plus victims’ associated ID number (that is unique for each victim) and [[email protected]] email – that belongs to the crooks behind the ransomware. A file myphoto.jpg will become myphoto.jpg.id-1E857D00.[[email protected]].Z9. To provide ransom demanding message, the ransomware creates FILES ENCRYPTED.txt file and displays a pop-up window.
The .txt file states that files have been encrypted and that the victims have to establish the contact t o the developers behind [[email protected]].Z9 ransomware via email address provided. This is what the FILES ENCRYPTED.txt file says:
all your data has been locked us
You want to return?
The pop-up window provides further detailed information. It states that the encryption is done using RSA-1024 encryption algorithm. To get the files back, contact the developers via [[email protected]] email address that must include provided ID number provided. An alternate email is provided on the pop-up window. As per the note, this email ([email protected]) is used for the contact if no any response is received as a reply from the first email. It further states that the files decryption requires using a unique decryption tool that the developers store on some remote server for limited days. In order to provide a proof that the decryption tool is really working, the developers offer free decryption service and users can send 1 file (non-archived 1MB or less in size) with the letter they send. However, the other files decryption is not free and for this the users have to purchase the decryption tool. The price of the tool is not mentioned on the note and it may be told later after when users contact to the developers. All that is given about the payment in the note is that it is to be accepted in Bitcoin only. The page also instructs how to generate Bitcoin. At the end, the pop-up window contains a scary note that prevents users from using third party software and renaming the files or, otherwise they will lose their files for permanently. Here is the full text presented on the pop-up window displayed by [[email protected]].Z9 ransomware:
All FILES ENCRYPTED “RSA1024”
All YOUR FILES HAVE BEEN ENCRYPTED!!! IF YOU WANT TO RESTORE THEM, WRITE US TO THE E-MAIL [email protected]
IN THE LETTER WRITE YOUR ID, YOUR ID 1E857D00
IF YOU ARE NOT ANSWERED, WRITE TO EMAIL:[email protected]
YOUR SECRET KEY WILL BE STORED ON A SERVER 7 DAYS, AFTER 7 DAYS IT MAY BE OVERWRITTEN BY OTHER KEYS, DON’T PULL TIME, WAITING YOUR EMAIL
FREE DECRYPTION FOR PROOF
You can send us up to 1 file for free decryption. The total size of files must be less than 1Mb (non archived), and files should not contain valuable information. (databases, backups, large excel sheets, etc.)
When you make sure of decryption possibility transfer the money to our bitcoin wallet. As soon as we receive the money we will send you:
- Decryption program.
- Detailed instruction for decryption.
- And individual keys for decrypting your files.
Do not rename encrypted files.
Do not try to decrypt your data using third party software, it may cause permanent data loss.
Decryption of your files with the help of third parties may cause increased price (they add their fee to our) or you can become a victim of a scam.
You should NOT pay/contact to the Cybercriminals under any circumstances. These people will never provide you the decryption software. If you pay, you will be scammed and will get no any software. In other word, paying to the crooks will not provide any positive result. The safest option is to use some reputable antivirus tool to remove [[email protected]].Z9 ransomware and recover the files using some existing backup. You should check other data recovery options for provided below the post.
How did ransomware intrude in?
In most of the cases, malicious programs are being distributed via scam campaigns, Trojans, untrustworthy downloading channels, fake software updaters and unofficial software activation tools. It is common for any ransomware distribution of using scam campaigns in which spam emails containing infectious files or links as attachments, if opened – users are asked to enable the files to run macros command that lead malicious software installation. Trojans are malicious programs, that if intrudes, will cause chain infections. In other word, the Trojans install other malicious malware on your OS. Freeware download websites, free file hosting sites, unofficial pages, third party downloadders, and p2p networks are some common example of untrustworthy channels that offer rogue applications. Fake software updaters exploit bugs/flaws of outdated software or directly download malware instead of providing update. Cracking tools lead computer infection by supposedly bypassing activation key for paid software.
Extension use: .Z9 plus victims associated ID number and email address belong to the ransomware developers
Ransom note: FILES ENCRYPTED.txt and pop-up window
Symptoms: Stored files become inaccessible, and their filename gets renamed. Ransom demanding message is displayed on the desktop. Cyber crooks demand ransom payment for the files decryption.
Distribution methods: infected email attachments, torrent sites and malicious ads
Damages: Risk of password stealing Trojan or other dangerous virus intrusion that cause direct damage to the system/software installed
Removal: Use some reputable antivirus tool or follow below mentioned step by step instruction to remove [[email protected]].Z9 ransomware from the system
How to prevent ransomware intrusion?
We recommend not opening any attachments provided on emails whose senders’ addresses seem irrelevant/Suspicious or unknown. All software and files should be downloaded from using official websites and direct links only. For any software update, only official software developers’ tools/functions should be used. Cracking tools are illegal to use and often cause computer infection. Instead of this, trust on official software activators only. Using antivirus tool is paramount as the program can prevent any malicious executables from being launched and provides adequate protection to the device.

Using inbuilt system recovery services, the backup can restore the files which are included under the backup. This method is considered easier as well and leaves no software, thus considered as a very popular method to fight against emergencies caused by infectious malware. Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1: Hit Win + R key combination and to execute Run command line.

Methods 4: Using other decryptors
Well, this method might sounds a bit weird as every ransomware identity basically uses different enciphers and methods to encrypt files on targeted computers. But when the a ransomware which has actually infected your machine comes from a ransomware family for which a decryptor is officially working and available as well, then this might work for you. Technically, this method is just based on luck and analysis, still many users have reported this worked for them. So, if you have seen a ransomware has infected your computer, the very first thing you should do is to identity what kind of virus has actually affected your machine. In most of the cases, ransomware attacks are irreversible, still those infections basically comes from a parent ransomware which might be cracked earlier. For an instance, Scarab ransomware or Hiddentear ransomware are some families which can be decrypted. To check your luck if the present ransomware that has affected your machine is decryptable or not. To do so, follow the guidelines below:
Step 1: Check the Ransomware Database Here and check if decryptor is available for the malware
Step 2: In case you find no results, you can check an open source project called NoMoreRansom to find the ransomware details and decryptor, which has affected your machine. If found, download the decryptor on your computer’s local drive. This page is being regularly updated by its officials once a ransomware is discovered in world.
Step 3: Before you proceed with the downlaoded decryptor, make sure you have backup all your important files.
Step 4: Execute the decryptor to scan and restore your files easily.
